2015 Summer Day Camps for Kids

Exploring Nature: June 2, 3, 4, and 5
9:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Open to ages 8-11
$30 for non-members, $25 for members

Come discover the great outdoors. Learn about birds, plants, and other critters as you explore nature through hands-on activities and art! We will take morning nature hikes and discover the wildlife around the museum. Animals will visit the classroom as well. Deadline to register is May 28.
Please bring lunch every day.

Fun with Wool: June 9, 10, and 11
10 AM to 1:30 PM. Open to ages 8-12
$40 for non-members, $35 for members

Learn the process of making yarn from wool and the basics of carding, spinning and weaving. Visit the Museumís Churro sheep and learn wet felting and dying methods. Join us for a fun exploration of wool crafting. Deadline to register is June 4.

Ropiní and Wrangliní: June 16, 17, and 18
10 AM to Noon. Open to ages 5-8
$35 for non-members, $30 for members

Put on your boots and grab your rope. Itís time to hit the trail! Learn the cowboy way as you stamp leather, try your hand at a little ropiní, design your own bandana, ride a pony, and learn a bit of animal etiquette. Deadline to register is June 11.

From Farm to Table: June 23, 24, and 25
10 AM to Noon. Open to ages 5-7
$40 for non-members, $35 for members

Where does our food come from? Learn what the Museumís greenhouse grows and learn about composting. We will be using the Museumís adobe-brick oven to make pizza and a salad from fresh ingredients! Deadline to register is June 18.

Time Travelers: July 7, 8, and 9
10 AM to 1:30 PM. Open to ages 9-14
$35 for non-members, $30 for members

Have you ever imagined traveling back in time? Interested in great stories and what life was like fifty years ago? Then join us on an amazing journey as we learn the basics of living history and improvisational performance. Each student will develop and portray a different historical character from 1965 New Mexico. Youíll dress in historically accurate costumes for an outdoor time travel performance on the last day of the class. (There is also the opportunity for students to participate in the Museumís July 9th theater presentation). Deadline to register is July 2.

Letís Sew!: July 14,15, and 16
10 AM to 2 PM open to ages 9-14
$40 for non-members, $35 for members

Learn the basics of sewing and create your own pillow. Hand stitching and use of machines will help you create your magical piece. Quilting will be introduced. Deadline to register is July 9.

Animal Friends: July 21, 22, and 23
10 AM to Noon. Open to ages 5-7
$30 for non-members, $25 for members

This is a class for any child who has ever wanted to meet the animals from the pages of a book. Children will encounter animals through stories, crafts, and have the opportunity to meet the real thing! The class will include a presentation on being a responsible pet owner. Deadline to register is July 16.

Archaeology Camp: July 28, 29, and 30
10 AM to 1 PM. Open to ages 7-12
$30 for non-members, $25 for members

Explore the early Southwestern world and how people once lived and survived. You will become a detective as we piece together puzzles from the past and learn how to use the tools of the archaeologist. Wear clothes suitable for digging! Deadline to register is July 23.

All Things Southwestern: August 4, 5, and 6
10 AM to 1 PM. Open to ages 8-12
$40 for non-members, $35 for members

Learn about the jewels of the southwest -- chile, pottery, textiles, and southwestern cuisine! Create your own piece of art with southwestern flare while learning the many cultures we have in New Mexico. Deadline to register is July 30.
