Museum Pre-visits:Staff and volunteers are available to come to your classroom before a scheduled field trip and introduce you to the Museum. These hands-on sessions will help your students learn what to expect and what a museum is all about. Pre-visits are limited to schools within the state of New Mexico and are scheduled on Wednesday mornings.
National History DayJoin secondary classrooms from throughout southern New Mexico as they do historical research and compete at regional, state and national contests for prizes and scholarships. This is a collaborative effort between the Museum, the New Mexico Humanities Council, and the New Mexico State University History Department and Library. Please call for more information.
Desert Water Traveling TrunkThis trunk comes complete with a curriculum guide, a video, maps, and materials needed to complete the experiments in the teacher's guide. An interdisciplinary science and social studies unit, it is based on irrigation and water use in the Rincon and Mesilla Valleys of New Mexico and the El Paso Valley of Texas. It has been correlated to the New Mexico Public Education Department Content Standards and Benchmarks for grades 5-8 and 9-12. The trunk can be checked out for use in the classroom.
